The Hot Spring:
Extremely hot 160 degree F water flows from a spring on the hillside next to the highway at Sunbeam Hot Springs Geological and Historical Site. The water is piped under the highway to volunteer built river side rock pools. The temperature is controlled by adjusting the rocks letting different amounts of river water into the pools. There are several pools on the river bank so it is soakable for a longer season than most of the Salmon River hot springs, and several pools are exposed as the river water level lowers through the summer. A new changing room, roadside bathroom were built and the old historical bathhouse restored recently. Historical information about the old resort that was located at Sunbeam Hot Springs were added during the renovation. Unfortunately the soaking pools are visible from the road and because this is a state managed historical area bathing suits are recommended.
